Frequently Asked Questions
-
I am based in Devon and London UK, but am currently working exclusively online, meaning that I can work with you from anywhere in the UK.
-
My fee is £120 for each 50 minute weekly therapy session. Payment is by bank transfer in advance, or on the day of each session. I review my fees in April each year.
-
One week’s notice is requested to cancel a session, otherwise you will automatically be charged. This is because your appointment time is reserved exclusively for you and I will not be able to fill the time slot at shorter notice.
-
Therapy sessions are weekly and last for 50 minutes. If we decide to work together I will reserve you a 50 minute session at the same time each week. Therapy is most effective when you come regularly, so it is important that you come each week.

Online therapy can feel very similar to therapy in-person. A significant advantage is that you do not have to travel to your appointment.
For effective online therapy you will need a good internet connection (strong enough to watch Netflix), and a device that has a camera. Ideally this will be a computer, or otherwise a tablet or smartphone.
It will be essential that you have a quiet, confidential space where you can speak freely without being distracted. Wearing ear phones can help with the sound quality and the feeling of privacy.
Our sessions will take place using Zoom which is free for you to download and use. If we decide to work with EMDR we may use a different video conferencing platform which is also free for you to use.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a powerful and unique therapy that can help people with a range of difficulties including distressing memories. It usually includes eye-movements and/or tapping. EMDR therapy is best known for treating PTSD but can be helpful for a range of difficulties including depression and anxiety.
EMDR therapy has a strong evidence base and is endorsed by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence; the World Health Organisation; The International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies; the NHS; and many other organisations.
I am a fully trained EMDR therapist. My work is supervised by an EMDR Consultant, and I record EMDR therapy sessions as part of the accreditation process: I will ask your consent for this, and there is no obligation for you to be recorded.

Parts work is based on the idea that we all have different sides of ourselves. For example, a part of you might want to move forward and try something new, but other parts might feel anxious, critical or hopeless about the possibility of change.
In therapy, we can explore these different parts with compassion and curiosity, giving them space to feel heard so that you can understand them better, and they can start to work for you rather than against you. Many therapeutic approaches use this way of understanding the self. In my practice, I particularly draw on Internal Family Systems (IFS), while also bringing in perspectives from other models when helpful, such as Schema Therapy, Psychosynthesis, and Relational Transactional Analysis. The most important thing is that the approach we use works well for you.
-
The central idea of Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy is that no matter what you've been through, you have a core Self—a source of compassion, strength, and healing within you. Trauma can cause parts of you to step in and take on protective roles, sometimes creating inner conflict. IFS gently helps these parts feel seen, heard, and understood, which allows them to relax and trust your Self to lead. As this happens, healing can take place, enabling you to step into a place where you feel more grounded, whole, and free to move forward with your life. I am trained to use the full IFS model.
-
As my approach is gentle and exploratory, I tend to work with people over the medium to longer term (from 20 weeks to a year or more). I may not be the right therapist for you if you are only planning to have therapy for a few weeks. However once we have started working together you are welcome to come for as many or as few sessions as feels right for you.
-
There will be regular planned breaks in therapy throughout the year. These include a longer break of 4-6 weeks in the summer, and shorter breaks at other times including Winter and Spring. As much advance notice of breaks will be given as possible. I encourage you to take holidays that coincide with these breaks wherever possible in order to maximise the continuity of our meetings. If you would like to take a holiday at another time please give me as much notice as possible (at least seven days as per the cancellation policy) to help us to pace and plan our work together.
-
I do not offer diagnoses as part of our work together. Instead I will work collaboratively with you to understand your unique story and find your own way forward.
If you are considering whether to seek a particular diagnosis from a different practitioner, therapy could give you a space to freely explore this and help you make a decision that feels right for you at this time.

I am registered with Bupa, WPA, Aviva, AXA, and Vitality.
Please note that insurance companies do not pay cancellation fees, and may not always pay for the full cost of consultations or the number of sessions required. Clients will be required to pay any excess.
